Positive
Coaching Alliance is a non-profit based
at Stanford University. Our mission is to
transform youth sports to provide all young
athletes with a positive, character-building
experience. Since 1998 PCA has conducted
several hundred coach training and leadership
development workshops to help youth sports
organizations create an organizational culture
that is both positive and competitive. PCA
has helped these organizations create and
sustain this kind of culture where Honoring
the Game is the norm.
While an estimated 40 million children
participate in youth sports in the United
States, over 70% drop out by the age of
13. The major reason for this is the "win-at-all-cost"
mentality of parents and coaches. PCA is
working to replace the "win-at-all-cost"
model of coaching with the "Double-Goal
Coach" who wants to win but has a second,
more important, goal of using sports to
teach life lessons.
The Positive Coaching model encourages
adults and athletes to "Redefine Winner,"
"Honor the Game," and "Fill
Emotional Tanks." For more information
about these core PCA themes, please visit
our website at www.positivecoach.org
You will also find a wealth of resources
and ideas that you can put to use at your
next practice or board meeting!
PCA works directly with coaches, parents
and youth sports leaders. We train organization
leaders on how to create an organizational
culture that promotes the values you want
to see in your fans, coaches and athletes.
Every PCA workshop is a highly-interactive
event, conducted by a dynamic PCA trainer
who brings expertise in youth sports issues
and coaching.
