LOCAL LACROSSE PLAYERS SELECTED AS HIGH SCHOOL ALL-AMERICANS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SYRACUSE, New York—June 26th, 2006 – Eight Bay Area high school lacrosse players have been named to the US Lacrosse Secondary School All-American Team, which was announced today by Tom Hall, National Chairman of the US Lacrosse All-American Selection Committee. Players are nominated by their coaches and supported by their leagues
.
Selection of the US Lacrosse All-American team is conducted regionally throughout the country. The number of area players named to the team is based on the number of high school teams playing the sport at the varsity level in each region. This year 22 All-Americans were named in California, which has 118 CIF boys’ teams throughout the state, 40 of them in the San Francisco Bay Area region.
The following local players were named to the team:
Nick Coric, Junior, De La Salle High School (DVLL)
Rob DiSanza, Senior, Marin Catholic High School (MCAL)
Kyle Donovan, Junior, Monte Vista High School (EBAL)
Bobby Enquist, Junior, Palo Alto Tomahawks Lacrosse Club (NCJLA)
Jon Jardim, Senior, Berkeley High School (DVLL)
Josh Roden, Senior, Miramonte High School (DVAL)
Miles Suter, Junior, St. Ignatius College Preparatory (CCS - Independent)
Ryan Westfall, Senior, Monte Vista High School (EBAL)
According to Jeff MacBean, San Francisco Area Chairman for US Lacrosse Secondary Schools Division, who headed this year’s regional selection committee, the eight student-athletes represent the continued growth of the sport in the Northern California region. “The talent level in Northern California continues to rapidly improve with each passing year. Players in the Bay Area are now taking up the sport at a young age and we are starting to see the end result at the high school level. These eight young men are clearly the strongest group of All Americans this area has ever produced and I expect that is a trend that will continue over the next few years as the sport firmly takes hold in this region. These players earned the respect of their coaches, their teammates, opposing coaches, and officials. We look forward to following their lacrosse careers as they move on to the college level next year.”
