LOCAL LACROSSE PLAYERS SELECTED AS HIGH SCHOOL ALL-AMERICANS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SYRACUSE, New York—May 30, 2005 – Eight Bay Area high school lacrosse players have been named to the US Lacrosse Secondary School All-American Team, which was announced today by Tom Hall, National Chairman of the US Lacrosse All-American Selection Committee. Players are nominated by their coaches and supported by their leagues.
Selection of the US Lacrosse All-American team is conducted regionally throughout the country. The number of area players named to the team is based on the number of high school teams playing the sport at the varsity level in each region. This year 22 All-Americans were named in California, which has 118 CIF boys’ teams throughout the state, 40 of them in the San Francisco Bay Area region.
The following local players, all seniors, were named to the team:
Phil Donici, St. Ignatius College Preparatory (CCS – Independent)
Bradford Goshorn, De La Salle High School (DVLL)
Andrew Kirchner, San Francisco University High School (BAC)
Colin Mason, Palo Alto Tomahawks Lacrosse Club (NCJLA)
Jack Miller, Menlo School (PAL)
Mark Swoboda, Foothill High School (EBAL)
George Timbrell, San Francisco University High School (BAC)
Tyler Westfall, Monte Vista High School (EBAL)
According to Jeff MacBean, San Francisco Area Chairman for US Lacrosse Secondary Schools Division, who headed this year’s regional selection committee, the eight student-athletes represent the tremendous advancement of the sport in Northern California. “The growth of lacrosse in California over the past few years has been absolutely incredible. These eight young men represent the outstanding talent that is now developing in the Bay Area. These players earned the respect of their coaches, their teammates, opposing coaches, and officials. We look forward to following their lacrosse careers as they move on to the college level next year.”
