Berkeley
High School Celebrity Waiter Luncheon
On Tuesday, March 16, Berkeley High
School hosted their Seventh Annual Berkeley
Athletic Fund Celebrity Waiter Luncheon,
benefiting Berkley High School athletic
teams. Participating in this year's
festivities from the San Jose Stealth
were defensemen Jim Moss and Shaydon
Santos.
The luncheon, held at Hs Lordship's
Restaurant helped raise more $10,000
dollars for Berkley High's athletic
programs, which includes lacrosse. In
1985, Berkley high became the first
Bay Area high school to introduce the
sport of lacrosse to their athletic
program. Nineteen years later, they
are one of the best high school lacrosse
teams in the nation, as they recently
celebrated their 2003 State Championship
title with a win over cross-town rival
De La Salle. Having players from the
San Jose Stealth at the event was obviously
very exciting for the storied lacrosse
program at the school.
Willing to do anything to make a difference
in the community, Moss and Santos graciously
gave up part of their day for the great
cause. Serving parents, faculty and
friends, the two Stealth defensemen
found themselves thoroughly enjoying
their experience.
"It was fantastic," said Jim
Moss, 2002-03 National Lacrosse League
Defenseman of the Year. "It's always
a good thing anytime you can help out
in the community."
The list of celebrity waiters was very
impressive, as past and present players
from the 49ers and Raiders, including
Andre Carter and Zack Crockett, topped
the star-studded lineup.
"Meeting all kinds of new people
was definitely the highlight of the
event for me," added Santos. "Meeting
some of those football players was really
great. There were good people at the
event."
John Sasaki from FOX Channel 2, served
as the master of ceremonies for the
luncheon. Not only is Sasaki a BHS alum,
but he is also the founder of the men's
lacrosse program for the school.
"John Sasaki was great. He made
the event," said Moss.
After lunch was served, all celebrities
were available for autographs and photo
opportunities. When asked if this was
something he would like to participate
in again next year Moss said, "Oh
definitely. I always have a great time
helping out any way I can."
